This project proposal forms part of Indonesian architects’ participation towards the Triennale of Milan 2016 and the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 in response to the increasing global refugee crisis.

 

The design process started with both the bottom up and top down process. The initial attempt was to look at the refugees not as a migration mass, but to a unique individual separately. After examination, the conclusion is that their collective group does not have a specific behaviour, a specific way of living, or a specific space. On the contrary, they have multiple variations in their way of living. Therefore, the logical approach would be to design a living space which is organised not in an absolute regularity, but more organically. The psychological approach is an important aspect in the design concept; it is the vital bridge that bonds the refugees to their surrounding social environment.
